Heat pumps built to function effectively in colder outside temperatures are more expensive.
Will this be a ducted heat pump or ductless mini-split heat pump? If you have forced-air heating like a furnace, you can install a ducted heat pump which will use the same heating ducts. If you have a boiler, radiators, or baseboard heating for example, then you will likely have to install a ductless system.
Ductless systems require individual indoor units which are mounted directly in the rooms or spaces being heated/cooled. Each distinct indoor area (depending on layout, airflow, etc.) may require a separate unit or 'head'.
You may not be able to qualify for government rebates if your furnace is too old or isn't efficient enough.
You may qualify for up to $5,000+ in government rebates or more via the Canada Greener Homes, and possibly other local/regional rebate programs if applicable. Note that availability and qualifying criteria may change at any time.
